Quake3 vertex normals - real programmers only!

Recommended Posts

Hi, Does anyone know or have sample code to generate vertex normals for Quake3 models? The model format seems to have 2 unsigned bytes after the vertex coordinates as the normal, but how do you create the x,y,z normals from these? Any ideas? Thanks, Mark

Those are environment mapping texture coordinates. Check out this document on the md3 format : http://q3arena.net/mentalvortex/md3view/Md3Specs.htm

Thanks; I thought that maybe the Quake3 format had the same type of ''lookup'' vertex normals like Quake2 had. I guess I''m wrong here... seems like I need to construct the normals at loading time.

Thanks again,

Mark
