about enabling texture

When I builded up first framework for a little game I made, I had the idea that frequently switching between glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D); glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_1D); and plain mode was not so good, so I try to group similar drawing together so save some switching. Is that right or it's not important? thanks siddim

humm is there a secret to make a good alpha sorting? If i have to swith from a 2d tex to a 1d tex and plain alot of time. Do you guys have special techniques?
