Bump Map Co-ordinates

I am trying to write a demo where a sphere collides with a bump mapped cube. What I want to do is change the bump map of cube with where the sphere collides with it. I have done this pretty well to a degree but have two problems: 1) How do I map the position in world space to the location in the bump map. I am currently setting up a camera above the quad rendering to a stencil buffer to produce the new map. Is there a better way of doing it. Can I edit a D3DX texture directly? 2) If I have to use the camera method, how do I set up a camera with no perspective? When I render the objects they appear smaller when they are further away but I don't want this to happen. Is it possible? Many thanks Jam
