I've been looking but so far all I can find are things on immediate, I can't seem to find anything on buffered mode. Immediate doesn't really make for the best toggle switches :)

I learned to use it from the examples and documentation that came with the DXSDK. It has a tutorial's section in the DirectInput section. Pretty good explainations.
