[web] Help: Web Design Charges

Hey all,
I'm an experienced web designer who has been designing for about 2 years. You can see some of my samples at http://www.pcistudios.com/nell, http://www.clandcmc.com, and, finally, my business website: http://www.pcistudios.com. I do both graphics design and coding, and can also do basic PHP scripts, etc. What I'm wondering is how much I should charge my customers. You can see my quote script at http://www.pcistudios.com/getquoted.htm. Take a look at the different options and pricing. Do these seem fair for my quality of work? Thanks for your help!

Your static site price doesn't allow for the number of pages the client wants. Whilst $170 for a static site isn't unreasonable, it becomes a waste of your time if they want 30 pages or so. Whilst it's good to charge per job you should advertise some example prices with a note to say that they're subject to change depending on the context of the job.
You're samples aren't convincing, maybe you should start with $100-$200 depending on the client.
I would charge minimalistic prices (~$100) until you have a larger portfolio. It also depends on what the client is looking for. If they want the whole site down with a user database and product listings, charge more. If they are just looking for a new design, charge less.

At first I was charging $125 base price for a static site. There is a guy in town here who charges that and does a worse job, in my opinion. For him he charges $125 for 3 pages, plus $40 / page after that. So I figured $170 would be reasonable. I realize it will vary depending on the number of pages - I should probably say something like that amount if for 10 pages, and its $20 per additional page. Would that be more fair?
Also, I realize my portfolio isn't much right now. I'm working on 2 other sites, which will bring me to a total of five. Do you think that will be good enough, with my kind of quality, to charge the prices I am charging?

....In case you were wondering: My friend's web dev company. In my opinion, they overcharge, and the pages they produce arn't really that good. But I'm a programmer, not a web designer.
In my opinion, I'd be willing to pay $50 for a simple design. Just one page without any content. I could then encourporate PHP and MySQL databases from there. Also, if your clients are pleased with what you did they will recommend you to others.

Hmm... how much does your friend charge?
Also another thing to consider is that marketing online and marketing to local small businesses is very different. Generally people from local businesses can afford to pay more.... I guess the best thing to do is try a set price for a while and see how it works out.
