in VC 6.0 it's under project->setting->link->general, and there was a "profile" button under "build" menu. now all of these are gone in vc++.net 2003, what should I do to profile?

Either buy intels profiler or use AMDs free version. You can also use PIX from the directx sdk to profile game specific values.

Properties-> C/C++ -> Preprocessor -> Preprossesor Definitoins
add: PROFILE;

Then just change to profile build.

There might be somthing else I'm forgetting, but I know that when you install the DirectX 9.0c exampls they have profile builds for them so you can have a look at the settings. Or just look up the preprocessor definition 'PROFILE' in msdn.

Or you can also use the Compuware free community edition profiler, which integrates to NET nicely.
