Where on the OpenGL forum here... talking about DirectX can be a little bit dangerous, there are people who hate DX so much that they would kill people saying that it's good...
OK, on topic now, aren't there any real libraries like http://openil.sourceforge.net/ for pictures? That have functions to load loads of model formats...

hi there. well, you don't need one in fact. the thing goes like this: a ready-made importer is a very unnecessary thing because in most of the cases u don't use everyone of it's features(except for x files). here is how i do:
1.establish exactly what data i need from the model
2.writting a quick exporter in a scripting language that the 3d modelling software supports(very easy-see for example maxscript)
3.if i can export in a binary format using the tehnique from step 2 is great. if i cannot, i export into a text format, then writting a quick console application to convert files to a binary format.
4.after this steps you know exactly what your file contains(and more important-it contains only what you need) and then you can very very very easelly load the file into your project).

the most important step and the one which takes the most of the time is the first one. the rest can be done in minutes.
