Hi. I've just started some game development (in C++ and SDL). So far I'm at the stages of creating a room, moving an object around the room, and using collision detection to stop the object moving outside the bounds of the room. What I would like to do is create a tile based map. I have no idea how to do this, can anyone point me in the direction of books, tutorials or just offer some advice on how to design/implement this? Cheers

If you don't mind storing maps as an image, you could look into the RPGMakers. They're tile-based, and the tiles are loaded from an image file with a standard size.

You might find an interesting tutorial or two here if you dig deep enough.

Otherwise, I just recommend [google].
