[java] tracking UI structure

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm writing a docking panels framework for my java app. It is working very well. Panels can be undocked, redocked, and dragged and dropped around. I have run into a problem that is stumping me. I want to store a custom view configuration. So my first thought was to store the root of the docking heiarchy but since its just a reference that won't actually save a snapshot of the state. I tried to get around actually cloning everything by traversing the UI heiarchy and saving individual components. This "works" but isn't right. So now I'm thinking about cloning. Anyways, any suggestions on how to save a current UI heiarchy and restore it at a later time? Btw, it doesn't have to be saved to disk or anything, just during the current session.
