Hey, i was just wondering if there are any companies operating over the internet, like do people like us ever band together and make a real game or peice of software over the internet?

Ussually only for learning projects. Its really hard to develop games over internet. Mostly artwork or modelling is contracted out over the net sometimes.

Believe me , its like those MMORPG posts on game dev, most internet teams never make it to a first realease. ( i don't want to sound discauraging)

Yes, it happens all the time with indie companies. See "Garage Games" http://www.garagegames.com and their "make games" section (or something similar).
