Double Buffering?

I dont get how to do double beffering, could someone tell me what it is and how to do it? or point me in the direction of a good tutorial? Thanks :)

When you are drawing all of your objects, draw them to some offscreen bitmap (in memory), then flip the entire bitmap to the display. There may be a slightly better way to do it (more efficient), but that seems like the easiest way to do it. I usually use some sort graphics api that handles it for you...
