RHW = 1?

why is it its always neccessary to eqaute the value of rhw to 1? what happens when i put different value to this one? thanks

RHW is Reciprical Homogeneous W. It's the value you multiplied each vertex coordinate by. It's used for clipping.

From the SDK:
When the device receives pre-transformed and lit vertices (T&L vertices) that need to be clipped, in order to perform the clipping operation the vertices are back-transformed to the clipping space using the vertex's reciprocal homogeneous w (RHW) and the viewport information. Clipping is then performed.

If you had (100,100,100,10), then you multiplied the first three values by 10 to get 100 (or better stated that you divided the three values by 1/10th).
