as far as a video card to run these 3-D programs? If this is the wrong place to send this then I aplogize, but I couldn't find anywhere else to put it. :( When I mean by run, I mean without any fuss, flawlessly. I need to find the best card for the money to run...say...Maya's tutorial program. from what I understand, it'll have everything I need to become proficient at Maya, but I just can't use it to sell anything with.n Is it true that I can use it to show and market what "I" can do with the software? Also, what other 3-D software is out there that the industry use other than Maya or 3D StudioMax and I don't have to take out a small loan to do so. :p Thanks in advance people.

hi,

Most modern ATI & NVIDIA cards will run maya, ckeck out alias's website for a list of qualified cards, that way you will be sure its good.
You can show off your work from Maya PLE but you are not permitted to use it for commercial use (anyhow why would ye, its got that horrible watermark!!)
Maya & 3DS max are the gaming industry stds but I do here of studios using Houdini & lightwave for game models. All this software is very expensive, if your looking for a cheap app then true space, caligari are worth investigating though these are not as advanced as Maya or max.

hope this helps.....

Helps tons gordon...tons. :p I wish StudioMax had a tutorial like Maya does. Even with their student offer, it's still very expensive. :(

Max does have Tutorials. Its in the Help. You have to install the Refference Docs.

But Max's included tutorials are ctually really good.
