How do you setup a wide screen display with directdraw?

I'd like to know how you would set up a wide-screen display in directdraw? Also, could you smooth scroll the wide-screen just by updating a pointer to screen memory?

why not just emulate widescreen by putting some black bars at the top and bottom then modify your tiles so they are longer than they are tall to simulate a perspective ratio.

Are you talking about using a screen with a wider-than-usual aspect ratio? Or are you talking about "fake" widescreen with black bars on the top and bottom?

If you're talking about using some strange "wider" monitor, you'll probably need to enumerate the possible display modes and allow the user to select from the list. DirectX (if that's what you're using) should be able to detect the hardware.
