I've been programming with C++/Win32 API for quite a while, and I made the path towards Java, so I figured I go here and see if anyone has AIM or MSN who is geekish enough to talk about the language so I don't have to ask a zillion questions here. Why don't you try The Java Tutorial. Go through that from start to finish. Then go through the short courses that may interest you on Sun's site as well. That may answer a lot of your questions more easily.
