Picture a small RPG written in procedural-C that makes use of GDI extensively, and now needs a way to play multiple sounds at once. The programmer, who's very talented at what he does (lol).. has concluded against the following DirectSound - Too much work, no C-Friendly tutorials. SDL_Mixer - I'd have to reprogram my game to use SDL. FMOD - I don't understand how to use it. OpenAL - Looks too professional (eg.. 3D sound and all). What should I do?

Use FMOD, that's always a safe bet.

Or SDL_Mixer, because SDL Pwns. So does Cornerstone.
Things change.
