I have been trying to learn all I can about programming and I have read several articles stating that it would be good for me to create a template project that contains the basic information I will need for each project I will be creating. I have one such template that I created for normal application programming but I was wondering if there is anything different I should do for game programming? Can anyone provide example resources or links to pages on this subject? Any tips that would help us new people out in this type of question? I would be very interested in hearing all viewpoints on this as well.

I find it's fairly useful for testing out new techniques and such. If you look at the DX samples, they have an entire framework around which they can build a sample application. For games, or at least graphics, having a similar template that has a window and game loop and device already set up is quite useful.
