VBAs VBOs and other VBthings

VBO is the cross-vendor standard which has been promoted to the core (I think) in OGL 2.0. VAR and others are vendor-specific. Time was, VBO implementations in available drivers had lots of caveats, so vendor-specific paths were more reliable. For the most part, however, ATI and nVidia have done well with VBOs, so there isn't much reason to use anything else.
