Critique my new laptop
Ok, so I just ordered a laptop. I would like others to tell me what they think of it.
This laptop will primarily be used to write DirectX9 code on-the-go:
AMD Athlon64-m 3200+
1gb pc2700 RAM
Radeon Mobility 9700 128mb
15.4" Widescreen (WSXGA) I think
60gb 5400 hdd
Builtin Wireless
DVD- cdrw combo drive
Not bad at all :)
What manufacturer did you end up going with?
EDIT: I had a mobile 9700 in my notebook but replaced it with the FX5700... that is the only part I don't like :)
hmm also why did you get a 5400rpm hard drive? That will be the major bottleneck in the system. I would switch it to the 60gb 7200rpm if at all possible. The difference between 5400rpm and 7200rpm drives is HUGE.

Custom built by Cyber Power Systems
I was really up in arms as to whether I should get an A64-m or the Pentium-M, but I am hopeful about the 64 bit future.....
Supposedly XP-64 is due out within the next 6 months.....

I actually really like the A64's.. I have a 3.0 Intel in mine but I would much rather have an A64.
The HDD you'll definately feel lag and performance hits though if you don't get the 7200rpm drive.
Here's an example:
Installing VSNET 2003 (7200rpm): 20 minutes
Installing VSNET 2003 (5400rpm): 1 hour 5 minutes

That's one nice laptop.
Out of curiosity, how much did that configuration set you back?

I just ordered a gaming/programming laptop similar to yours:
Intel Dothan 1.8ghz
ATI 9700 w/128MB
60GB 7200RPM
1GB RAM
15" 1400x1050 display
Wireless 802.11 b/g
Price: $1734 US
I went with the Dothan processor for the longer battery life. Normally I buy Dell's, but I couldn't get a 6lb laptop with an ATI 9700 pro from Dell. All their 9700 equiped notebooks were the 9lb beasts.
