General mapping question

Hi all, I'm trying to organise some terms and was hoping for a little help. Under the umbrella term "mapping" I've found several different types, texture mapping, bump mapping, normal mapping, displacement mapping and environment mapping. Are all of these techniques independent of each other? Or is environment mapping a subdivision of texture mapping, for example? Also are there any other mapping techniques I should be aware of? Even though I understand the theory behind these methods I'm not exactly sure how they relate to each other. I'd appreciate if you could share your understanding of this term. Thanks!
