D3DXMeshClean produces memory leaks?

I noticed that D3D was reporting like 160 diffrent memory leaks and started trying to figure out where. I couldn't find them anywhere and I just tried removing the call to D3DXMeshClean (at random mostly). That did it. So what's up with that? Anyone know? I'm using DX8.1 btw. Maybe it's fixed in DX9?
