Please try out my new game! It's a fighting game similar to Mortal Kombat. It has combos and fatalities as well. The link is: http://www.outofgear.gotdns.com/jon/new/fightinggame.zip Here is a screenshot: http://www.outofgear.gotdns.com/jon/new/new%20game.jpg The manual is inside the zip file. Any feedback would be great. Jonathan

pretty cool, nice one mate. Still plenty of room for improvement, but you've got MUCH further than I did when I tried to make similar some years ago.

constructive critisism - it seems unresponsive at some points, but the animation is still smooth - maybe a logic problem? also, it seems a bit too particular about the distance you try to hit from - me and the AI kneeling next to each other punching past each other, for example.

overall though, good stuff. It's playable and almost fun - a bit of tweaking should improve it no end.

oh yeah: runs fine, ~350 fps on my athlon 2600, 512 ram, radeon 9800pro.

Mmh, crashed immediately without any warning.
I had to download the glut32, glide2x etc. libraries, so maybe it's a good idea to include them in the zip file.
Am I still missing some files?

Well I don't think I had to install anything to get it working on my computer, but that doesn't mean I didn't already have what I needed. What OS have you got WanMaster? I guess it could be a combination of anything including video card drivers, DirectX, OS plus whatever else. I would assume that if you can run other OpenGL programs then this one should work as well...

I haven't actually tried it out on anyones computer except the two I own. (which is obviously what I am asking you people for help with) Anyone got any suggestions?

Yeah I did think that people would be a bit put off by the whole range thing, but I had another look at it just then and I like it the way it is. In an effort to make this game a bit different than other fighting games, I made it so you have to be a realistic distance from someone to hit them. When you are standing shoulder to shoulder to someone it's hard to punch them with your leading hand and almost inpossible to kick them.

So maybe I just need to add a throw move or something...

mrbastard do you mean by unresponsive that you press keys and nothing happens? Because the way it is written at the moment is that if a move is tried in a range that couldn't possibly make contact it is cancelled ASAP. This is the other half to the range equation. It would be stupid to execute the entire move when it isn't going to do damage. So it might look like nothing is happening but you just need to step back a bit.

On the other hand moves might be completed but still not be in range because there is a bit of leeway to take into account that the enemy could be moving backwards, and be in the right place by the time the kick is completed.

Thanks for the feedback, and rest assured I am not planning on stopping work on this any time soon, at least until I find a full time job, which could be a while the way things are going...

I never had any problems running OpenGL-applications, and I develop DirectX stuff and never encountered any issues there either.
I tried on my laptop:

Intel Pentium Mobile 1.4 GHz
512 MB RAM
GeForce4 4200 Go
WinXP Professional

The only "weird" thing about this system is that the screen has an out of the ordinary apect ratio (1680x1050 resolution), but it can handle a normal 0.75 ratio, so that can't be a problem either I suspect.
So it's still I mistery for me. And since it doesn't output some sort of debug log file, it's kinda hard to tell what the problem might be.
Too bad though, I have put quite a bit of work in a similer game myself, but had to (temporary) give it up due to a lack of time. But I'm really interested what other people managed to create.

Anyway, good luck with the project!
