The opengl shading language pdf file from the opengl website says that vertex shaders can use the texture3D. Everytime I try to compile a vertex shader using that function I get, 'unable to find compatible overloaded function "tex3D"'. I thought maybe my video card didn't support that so I tryed the Nvidia emulator and set it to GeForce 6800 and still get the error. Anyone know why or if vertex shaders actually can use the texture lookup functions?

Indeed, current NV drivers for GLSL dont allow for texture lookups in vertex programs.

I do belive that there is an extension which lets you perform the lookups, but you have to use the assembler interface todo so

I downloaded the new drivers from nvidia. 66.93
and using nvemulate set at geforce 6800 the vertex shader will now compile.

So I needed the new drivers.

ah, so they have done it then, I'll have to remember that.

And yes, to do it in hardware you'll definately need a GF6 based card, but i'm guessing you knew that [wink]
