Is it slow to call glBlendFunc() multiple times in one frame? Also is there a way to check what the current function is? to see wether or not i need to call it again? Thanks!

This shouldn't cause any more slowdown than calling any other function, since OpenGL is merely storing what type of function to perform on the next blended fragment. By retrieving the current blend function, you'd probably be using more CPU time than to just constantly set it. ;)
