i kind of buried this problem awhile ago and never really got around to fixing it... i pretty much want a basic 3rd person camera. my implementation of this is as follows: 1) use gluLookAt and set the camera to be looking at the origin from some point behind the origin. 2) draw the object i want to follow 3) apply the rotations and translations that i want to be done on the object in an opposite manner to other objects in the scene. for example, if i want my player to move forward i instead move everything else backward. i am not sure if thats how this kind of thing is normally done. assuming it is (please, tell me if its not) then i have a slight problem. its difficult to explain but basically rotations are occuring around where the camera is and not where the object is which makes it difficult to do things like have my player walk next to a tree and then turn to look at it. please dont post tutorials. i know that theyre out there but for a lot of reasons id rather not go down that route. thanks in advance.
