Looking for tutorial on packet management for games

I am coding this text-based multiplayer online rpg in c++(I'm still a fairly novice programmer - I'm 15, but I am good enough to do this. I'm doing fine) in which everything but the application that does user input/output is stored on the server. The user's app is very simple. All it needs to be able to do is esnd/receive packets, and display the information it receives. I can do everything except manage the packets with display information. Is there a good tutorial somewhere that teaches the basics on ths? I just don't know where to start. Thanks
