3DS unwanted subdivision

Hi you and you... and you too I have a problem, when attempting to load a 3ds file, it works fine, unless the fact that the mesh is separated in differents objects so that each one is uncaped. This is a really huge problem for me, because of the stencil shadows optimization... Since this mistake appear since v6 (v7 included), i was wondering if this was a bug in 3d studio max. Do you have some solutions, instead of writing a brute force function to try to find the vertices that have been cloned... Thanks for your regards in this :D
