C# - Scripting Question

Ok, I'm just starting in game dev. as a hobby, and I have a question about scripting. I'm using C# and Managed Direct X. I'm moving pretty good on a 2D engine, and then I got into, how do I code the actual gameplay? Read up on game scripting (Lua, Python, etc). but really started to ask myself, since this is just me on the project do I really need to embedded a scripting language? Can't I just create a bunch of public C# functions to interact with the engine related classes to code the gameplay? Please let me know what I'm missing here... Thanks, Dave

With C# it is fairly easy to dynamically compile and load assemblies in C# (or another .net language) I would recomend that route over any other embedded scripting.

Regardless of whether or not you use a scripting language you will need to make a control framework -- a bunch of public functions or whatever. These functions should work the same in your compiled code as they would in your script and if you are just getting going and regularly compiling don't bother with scripting (but I recomend that you keep the possibility of scripting in mind as you design think about what parts of your engine you want to expose and what you don't). If you end up using C# as your scripting language then the script code will be practically identical to the pre compiled code -- it is just a matter of when you load it.
