Ive noticed a few more sites that dynamically save your information without doing a post back. For example, when using Gmail you can add a "label" to a message, and this information is saved without posting back. Any insight on how that is done?

You may find this article interesting. It's about how sites like gmail use javascript with the XML HTTP request object to work their magic. It basically lets javascript call the server to retrieve/post data; meaning a callback is made (of sorts), but you just don't know about it. Pretty clever if you ask me. I might look into using it for some stuff. Be warned though, I don't think all browsers support it. GMail is unusable in Konqueror for example, but the main browsers (FF/Mozilla/Opera/IE) can take it on the chin (albeit with slighly different syntax).
