wierd animations in exported maya meshes

We get very strange animations when exporting maya meshes to x (using microsoft december 2004 SDK plug-in). The basic animation is there, but some keyframes seem to be just plain wrong. Arms and legs of our character just seem to rotate out of place, making a sort of flimmer in the animation. Anyone else know of this problem? And is there something that can be done about it? Is there maybe some other exporter that exports animations well?
