Yes, if it isn't taking too much of your time, and you have a job. Other than that no.

Making money on games is no guarantee. Some games are good, and when lots of people know about them, they sell well. Some games are good, and when few people know about them, they sell poorly.

Bad games generally sell poorly.

The game industry involves lots of risk. There have been many occasions when games make a huge profit and many times when a game that has taken years to develop is a huge failure.

It's something you're going to have to research and decide for yourself whether it is worth it or not. Business almost always involves risk of some kind: it's just a matter of whether you think it's worth it or not.
This is pretty low compared to a day job programming. This is what many programmers make in a week.
If you do decide to do it. Make sure that it is legit. Have a contract signed or somthing related to that to make sure he can't hustle you once your finished.

Try to work it up a bit, if you really are worth the money. And try to get paid over time. It's hard for me to work thinking of the big picture, need some motivation. If you're doing all the graphics, sound; the entire game, then you deserve a bit more if you're doing this for someone else. And if it will take you a year of your time, and you're the best he can find, well he better pay you more than that. Just because you aren't as skilled as others doesn't mean you should be paid less for the same thing. Depends, I don't completely understand your situation.

If you do it though, it is a good way to improve your learning. You could experiment with things you haven't learned yet. Getting paid for learning is nice.
How complex is the game going to be? If it is only going to take you 2 months as an after school project then I'd take it. I'd also try to get a little more then $1000. If they are not willing to provide the art assets then I wouldn't go near it. Make sure you get a good design document from them and ask questions early on. I would also suggest getting a lawyer to look over the contract, but this will eat into your profits, so its up to you.

*cough* Battlefield Vietnam *cough*

Seriously, BF1942 (the earlier one) was better as an actual game. BFV just had a couple of features that were different, but the actual game itself wasn't as good.
$1000 is a poor amount - depending on your situation, I would ask for royalties also. You would have to consider how much of your time it would take, where it's going to be sold (ie how many sales would they be expecting from it), how trustworthy is the publisher (I'm assuming the propsal came from a publisher btw) and whether you want the money more than you want the 'credit' on the box/sleeve.
hey, I might be able to put it into publication. Iv been looking for a small 2d rts. You could offer the other guy a licence on the game, so that you can still sell it off to others. Do you have a demo that I could view? I cant give a price quote till I view it, but I would assume if its of any quality, I should get more than $1000. email me: exile_ugha@hotmail.com
