I am using vb .net 2003 and i want to know how would i go about making a replica of direct voice. I want to send data from the microphone of one computer to another computers speakers (peer to peer). I know how to send text, but how would i detect if a mic is plugged up and get what is being said into it(the data)?

You need to use waveInOpen() and waveOutOpen(), or DirectSound, to start recording from the microphone and playing back to the sound card. This has nothing to do with network programming, per se, but as there's no Windows-specific forum, I'm letting it stay in this forum for now.

Other libraries that could also give you sound in and out capability is OpenAL, FMOD, or BASS.

If you're new to the wonderful world of sound, I suggest you also read up on whatever Google gives you for "PCM sampling" and "codec". Also check out the FAQ for the Beginner's board in the sound section.
