I only know some people are studying the ray trace.They precomputed the geomitry infomation which have no relation with the view point and the light.
And then use the ray tracing method to caculate the light infomation.
And save these infomation into a texture called brdf(or bssrdf)map.

i am currently studying the vertex and pixel shaders and shader designers' SDKs.
and i plan to learn about "skeletal animation" more.

Personally I'm doing some fairly sophisticated research in global illumination techniques using photon mapping and raytracing for visualization. That's taken something of a distant back-seat to my full-time career(s), however. See sig for rather old details.
