Usually the best way is by hand. I know that sounds bad and inefficient, but if you want your program ot work as it is supposed to - I'd go by hand. This is how I do mine:

Create the new project
Copy all the files
Compile and fix errors until it works

Luckily going from VC6 to DevCPP isn't so bad. Most of anything you can do in 6 you can do in Dev-CPP. I'd say a problem would be going from 7 to 6. That's where a lot of bugs arise.

Actually you dont need any extra conversion tool, all of the version 5 betas come with the tool built in under file->import which will do the trick, how reliable it is I dont know.

It's fairly reliable, I've found, although I haven't used it on anything over, like, a project consisting of 6 files. The only real problems arise with the '#include <*********>'s, as Dev C++ seems to have, for me at least, problems finding some header files included with VC6.. But that WAS a while back, it might have been fixed.
