Books for 2d game design using SDL?

I think your confusing 'game design' with 'game programming'. There are a few books on SDL game programming, I recommend starting by searching on amazon.com. Programming Linux Games(it's actually about crossplatform game programming, not just making games for linux) and Focus on SDL are some you might want to look at.

Roboguy is right. I wanted to PM Ernest Pazera and ask him to make "Isometric Game Programming in SDL" [smile]. The best thing I have to offer is Cone3D's tutorials. Other than that you need to look for 2d game books for OpenGL or DirectX and make the necessary conversions for SDL.
