Since I don't have many other choices, I was thinking about learning Direct3D from the SDK help. Has anyone here done it?

Yeah, I'm doin it now. Go to the Tutorials and follow along, but you might also want to read some tutorials or books to help you along.

Maybe www.gametutorials.com or something? I mean, you can learn directly from the SDK (plenty of people including myself have done it), but I think Microsoft isn't so good at explaining things in an easy way as some of the tutorial writers on the net are. I mean, there are some great tutorials on the net that give you full code to do everything, very useful to learn from especially if you're a bit new...

Dont try lo leand with DX9c... use DX9 or DX9b. Easier examples there. After that, switch to DX9c.

Luck!

What? The 9c docs are fine, plus the rewrote all of the functions in 9c, so the others don't teach true syntax.
