Hey all, I want to create some nice watter effects in my game so I decided to multy texture a couple of transperant bitmaps over each other to create a cool murky effect. Works well, but it's very static. I notice in other games that achive similar effects, like warcraft III or even tomb raider, that they manage to animate the textures. I think having the watter textures slowly crawl over each other at different rates would make a really neat effect! Only question is how would I do it :D Assuming I have good tiling textures, how would I manipulate the UVs to create a crawling effect? Any suggestions?

Texture Matrix, glMatrixMode(GL_TEXTURE) and then use the matrix operations (rotate, scale, translate, etc). Or if you have vertex_program support or GLSL you could do this in a shader. Using the texture matrix in my experience results in a little hit in performance (if not identity), this ofcourse is resolved by doing it in a shader.

Both ways allow you to keep your data static, so not modifying texture coords every frame

HTH
