The DirectX SDK comes with a Maya plugin which will export in .X format. Use the DirectX sample browser, and find the 'Maya 5.0 Preview Pipeline' utility, and click on 'Project Files' to install the source files.

The source files build a maya plugin that provides .X file export as well as a way of previewing HLSL effects in a maya preview window.
