handling discontinuous uvs

hi, i'm currently using a vertex buffer + index buffer to draw a mesh, but i'm not sure of the best way to get textures to draw correctly when some vertices have more than one coordinate in the uv map. would it be best to add a new vertex to the vertex buffer with the additional uv coordinate, or is there a simpler way? thanks in advance.
