Newbie: Convert .ICO to .BMP (Win32/C++)

Hi all, I have been searching the net and other forums for hours now and I cannot find a clear answer on how to convert an Icon file/object to a .BMP image file/object. IDEALLY what I am actually trying to do is to: get the Icon from an .EXE file, then convert it to a .BMP. If this can be done all in memory without saving to files in-between, then all the better! The end result is that I'll render the BMP in a 3D world, so this is the Win32 bit that's got me! I have seen references to GetIconInfo, but (being a newb) I haven't found a full example. (I am developing the Win32 application in C++ to run on Win2000/XP). Thank you very much in advance for any help you can give. Paul.

Shows how to get HBITMAP from ICON. As far as putting that into a texture, I don't know, but this should be step 1.
