Bitmaps in console apps
Assuming you're using Windows you can't, not unless you use ASCII art or switch to some graphics mode.
ok i could do it with ascii art and i know how but what about switching to a screen mode would i be able to display a bitmap then??
Indeed. It's not possible to output images in a frame buffer like that, you can try using some funky ASCII characters, but if you want to use actual bitmaps, you're going to need to use Allegro or SDL.
You can get a handle on a console window and draw to it, i forget how exactly but i remember another game dev user showing off some of his/her work, i cant provide a link to it though becouse the search option seems to be inactive, try reading up Win32 on msdn.
cheers,
cheers,
It's posible to do this, I've seen it in Mandrake Linux 10.1.
When you run it in console mode (without entering X) theres a watermark on the lower-right part of the screen with MDK logo.

Yeah, It's a lot different than a Console *window*, but since he mentioned "switching to a screen mode"...
