Projection Matrix

How often am I supposed to set the projection matrix? Whenever changed or at each render pass (that I see other engines do frequently)? Also, in a 3d engine where is a good place to store information about the projection? In the camera class or in the renderer class? This depends on the design on the engine but I'm interested in how you do it and if it works well. Thanks in advance.
