I'm trying to render a 3d scene using glOrtho so I get a top view. Here is what I call glOrtho(0, 640, 0, 480, -1000, 1000); Then each framea I call gluLookAt(512, 100, 512, 513, 0, 513, 0, 1, 0); Then I simply render everything normally. But all I get is a black screen. Does anybody know if I'm doing this right? I'm not performing any culling at the moment, so it is not that.

Have you tried a simple GL rotate instead of the lookat? E.g.

glRotatef(-90, 1,0,0); // Look 'down'.
