dxf and x?

anyone know if theres a difference between dxf and the x file format? ___________________________ he who plays with root, kills tree

Yes, there''s a huge difference.

i believe dxf was made by autodesk a long time ago. x was made by microsoft for direct3d.

for one, dxf files can''t use textures. dxf files are huge ascii files as well.

Yes, DXF is an Autodesk format that has *NOTHING* to do with the X file format. Its been around for a decade at least. It is/was basically a published format for sharing AutoCAD models, which used to be 2D only. Its migrated into something that supports 3D now, but it is *NOT* designed to support animation, textures, any game specific stuff. I wrote a limited parser for DXF years ago (1991/1992). Its not a pretty file format at all. It''s ASCII, but not what I would call human readable.

Ah, DXF... "20" means the next line is a number, "80" means... oh, I forget.

I believe that both of these formats suck for games. What''s y''all''s favorite 3d formats?
