in vc++ i want to be able to read in a tiled bitmap . do I need to convert the desired .bmp into a resource. ps I dont have a clue about resources but I have an example of a program reading in a sprite from a .bmp and it uses a resource insted of the exact file name

Here is a function that loads a bitmap without making the bmp as a resource. Just give the file name.

HBITMAP LoadABitmap(LPSTR szFileName)
{
// Load the bitmap and return the handle to the bitmap we just loaded
return (HBITMAP)LoadImage(NULL, szFileName, IMAGE_BITMAP, 0, 0, LR_LOADFROMFILE);
}
