If I buy 3DS MAX v? can I import .gmax files and then export them as .3ds files? I looked on discreet's webpage and see no information on file types 3ds Max supports? Thanks

I checked through 3dsMax7, but there is no import feature for .gmax files.

There might be some plug-in you can find, but I doubt that it would be legal.

Give me a break, how do they figure if one pays $3000 for a rendering package you can't import their free file format. Might have to look into Maya or Lightwave for my modeling package...

Because GMax is specifically made for modding, and any professional uses are illegal, without a $400(?) Liscence. Why 3dsMax can't import it, I don't know. I've always hated Discreet, but I love 3dsMax. Oh well...

I'd recommend sticking with 3dsMax, especially if you've been developing skills in GMax. Expensive, yes. Awful customer service, yes. Great modeling package, yes.
