need a good font engine

i have used bitmap fonts in the past which are fast but ive found ther not very flexible, i couldnt change the size, color, w/e. it could be because i didnt no how to properly do that but i dunno. Could someone tell me a good font engine that i could easily implement into my program that is flexible(font sizes,color,ect)? thx in advanced jake

I was sort of in this predicament a few days ago. I contemplated all of the font libraries at this link. After careful consideration, I believe FTGL is by far the best choice. It is simple to use, and has every font type you could possibly want (bitmap, pixmap, texture maps, outline, polygon, and extruded). It's very flexible, as it is based on the freetype font library, so you have a pretty endless supply of font choices. It did take me a few hours to figure out how to compile/link all the libraries and headers correctly, but it can be done in under 10 minutes if you know what to do.
