Cg and D3D8

I have a game engine writen in D3D 8 and I was planning to soon add a shader system useing Cg, but then I realised that D3D8 only has basic shader suport and it might not work, so rather than spending hours looking for the answere to a simple question I figured I'd post here were someone who knows the answer off the top of there head would be able to tell me. Can I use Cg with D3D 8 or do I need to upgrade everything to D3D 9 (and loose suport for 9x systems in the process)?

Yes it works. im using it my self with dx8
