[web] I need some help with PHP
I really want to learn PHP..... since html is kind of getting old.
I don't know much about php except the host for the site needs to support php and u need to download something... an editor or something. I don't really know.
Could someone fill me in?
PHP is a server-side language that generates HTML; it's not a replacement for HTML. You'll need to install PHP on the server in order to execute PHP files when they're requested. No special editors are needed; a generic text editor will do.
If you want to learn some basic PHP, I suggest you take a look at this site:
http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp
The tutorial is VERY basic, but should get you started out. At least, it got me started within 5 minutes, and within a week I wrote a reasonable portal for my own website.
Most of the information from PHP came from the PHP site itself. They have a huge documentation section which explains pretty much everything.
Good luck,

Don't know how much of a use I can be but I'll give it a shot.
Visit php.net and download it. Get it installed on your webhost or your server if you will be hosting your own pages while you experiment and learn.
Obviously I can't tell you everything there is to know about PHP, this is way too broad a subject. As you may know, its a server side language and in my opinion very powerful. Think of it as a programming language except for web sites.
To start off I would advise looking through some sites such as PHPbuilder or PHPfreaks or one of the innumerable sites with tutorials and articles you can find with Google.
It is perfectly feasible to learn everything (or at least get your feet wet) using resources on the internet, but if you are lost or need more in-depth and sometimes better help, theres nothing like a good book. Personally, I learnt a lot reading PHP and MYSQL Web Development, though I am sure other people will have other recommendations aswell.
Among the various things I have found PHP useful for, I consider sessions and database connectivity to be some of the best. But, its a powerful language so there are many possibilites.
If you have any further questions, fire away. Hope I have/can be helpful
