I was just wondering if anyone knew if your motherboard has any effect on whether you can run shaders, my video card is adequate (radeon 9600) but my nforce2 motherboard isn't, does this mean i can't run shaders?

Huh? The motherboard has nothing to do with your video card. You should be able to run shaders fine.
